WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today announced two new Republican committee members for the 118th Congress: Senators Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.). Remaining on the committee are Senators Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Todd Young (R-Ind.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), and Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.).
“I am excited to welcome Senators Pete Ricketts and Tim Scott to the committee for the 118th Congress,” said Risch. “With Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine, China’s increased aggression towards Taiwan, and the Biden Administration making one misstep after another in the foreign policy space, there is no shortage of issues the committee will need to address this Congress. I know Senators Ricketts and Scott will provide valuable insights, and I look forward to working with them in the months ahead.”
Established in 1816 as one of the original standing committees of the Senate, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has jurisdiction over legislation concerning the conduct of U.S. foreign policy, including foreign assistance, treaties, and declarations of war. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee also is responsible for oversight of the U.S. State Department and review of executive branch nominations that carry out U.S. diplomacy, including secretary of state and U.S. ambassadorships.
