WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement on the United Nations General Assembly’s (UNGA) upcoming vote on a biased, anti-Israel resolution proposed by the Palestinian Authority (PA):
“Next Wednesday, UNGA will vote on a biased, anti-Israel resolution proposed by the PA – a clear publicity stunt. The draft resolution includes absurd proposals, including Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions language, and fails to even mention Hamas and the October 7th massacre.
“The PA is long-overdue to implement reforms and prove it can govern, and it cannot use the October 7 attacks as a spring board to recognition at the UN. Any country that votes for this resolution should be ashamed. This stunt further proves why the Senate needs to pass my NOPE Act. The PA should not receive additional rights and privileges at the UN.”
Background:
In May 2024, Risch led 24 colleagues in introducing the NOPE Act to cut off U.S. funding to the UN if the PA receives more privileges. Text of the legislation can be found here.
