Washington, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Jim Risch (R-ID), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today made the following statement regarding the administration’s announcement of new sanctions on 14 individuals and 17 entities related to nuclear weapons development in Iran:
“I applaud the Trump administration’s decision to designate 31 Iranian individuals and entities linked to the nuclear related activities carried out by the Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND). Sanctions play an important role in preventing Iran from developing weapons of mass destruction, and I encourage the administration to continue to use all tools available to hold the Iranian regime to account.
“I staunchly support the administration’s efforts to apply maximum pressure on the Iranian regime for its destabilizing activities across the Middle East, including its support for Hezbollah which poses a direct threat to Israeli security.”
