WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement regarding President Trump’s decision to revoke National Security Memorandum-20 (NSM-20), a Biden policy that purported to tie U.S. security assistance to human rights policy:
“President Trump’s repeal of the Biden Administration’s NSM-20 is excellent news. The Biden policy was ultimately nothing more than a virtue signal to the progressive left in an effort to influence domestic election politics--it was conceived of as a means to embarrass our ally Israel in its time of need. In practice, it drove a wedge between the United States and our partners, and opened the door to Russia and China. Anyone who is lamenting the ending of this policy today is shamefully cheering for this empty political gesture that ultimately made the United States and its allies less safe. America is back.”
