Risch Statement on Nord Stream 2, Turkstream Sanctions Updates

BOISE, Idaho – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement on the administration’s recent announcement that sanctions may be imposed on companies involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 and Turkstream pipelines:

“I applaud the administration’s recent announcement that sanctions may be imposed on companies involved in the construction of the Russian-backed Nord Stream 2 and TurkStream pipelines. Projects like Nord Stream 2 are a threat to European energy independence and reflect an attempt by the Russian government to undermine the security of nations like Ukraine. Companies working on this project would be wise to take the administration’s announcement seriously. I will continue to support efforts to counter Russia’s malign influence and to protect the integrity of European and NATO energy and military security.”
