WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement after members approved the nomination of Representative Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) to become ambassador to the United Nations by voice vote during a committee business meeting.
“Our nation faces threats from across the globe. China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran are all working together against the United States and it will take a strong effort, alongside our allies, to push back against their malign aggression. As ambassador to the UN, Representative Stefanik will unite our allies against these bad actors that threaten our democratic values, all while ensuring the UN is accountable to the American taxpayer. Filling the UN Ambassador role is an urgent national security priority, and I hope to see Representative Stefanik’s nomination pass the Senate quickly.”
Representative Stefanik’s nomination will next move to a vote on the Senate floor.
