Risch, Shaheen to Lead Congressional Delegation to 2022 Halifax International Security Forum

WASHINGTON – Next month, U.S. Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees, will lead a bipartisan congressional delegation to participate in the 14th annual Halifax International Security Forum. Risch and Shaheen will be joined by Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), and Tim Kaine (D-Va.), as well as hundreds of national security leaders from around the world to discuss strategic cooperation on common global security goals.

Lawmakers will participate in conversations on U.S. leadership and coordination with allies to address Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and an emboldened China.

“The annual Halifax International Security Forum provides an important opportunity for leaders from like-minded democracies in Europe, the Indo-Pacific, and Canada to have honest conversations and find common sense solutions to today’s biggest challenges. From Putin’s brutal war against Ukraine to China’s escalating aggression against Taiwan, there is no shortage of issues for us to discuss this year,” said Risch. “I look forward to once again leading a bipartisan Senate delegation with Senator Shaheen to this year’s forum next month.”

“I’m proud to once again lead the United States’ bipartisan congressional delegation to Halifax with Senator Risch, which underscores the meaningful commitment among lawmakers in the Senate to find common ground and work together to address our most pressing national security challenges,” said Shaheen. “The Halifax International Security Forum provides a unique opportunity for lawmakers to engage directly with our allies and partners from around the world on the key issues making international headlines. It’s rare to have lawmakers, diplomats, military leadership and other influential national security figures under one roof to engage in dialogue, form bonds and hopefully, make progress on shared priorities. I look forward to this year’s forum getting underway next month.”
