WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), a senior member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations, Armed Services, and Appropriations Committees, will lead a bipartisan congressional delegation to participate in the 16th annual Halifax International Security Forum. Risch and Shaheen will be joined by U.S. Senators Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), as well as additional members of Congress and hundreds of national security leaders from across the globe to discuss strategic cooperation on shared global security goals.
“I’m pleased to lead the congressional delegation to the Halifax Security Conference alongside my good friend Senator Shaheen,” said Risch. “This conference has been a shared priority of ours for years, because it’s an excellent place to come together and discuss solutions to some of the most pressing security challenges faced by the United States and our allies.”
“I’m proud to once again lead the United States’ bipartisan congressional delegation to Halifax with my friend and colleague, Senator Risch. Our trip demonstrates our continued bipartisan commitment to finding common ground and forging compromise on even the most challenging global security issues,” said Shaheen. “From Putin’s war in Ukraine to ongoing challenges in the Middle East and the fight for democracy worldwide, the Halifax International Security Forum offers a real opportunity to connect with global allies and partners and make progress on our shared priorities.”
At the forum, lawmakers will participate in conversations on U.S. leadership and coordination with allies and partners to address the multi-front war on freedom and democracy, along with the global economic, security, and political ramifications conflicts provoked by authoritarian governments have on the United States. Risch and Shaheen have led a bipartisan delegation to the Halifax International Security Forum for the past six years.
