WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II:
“Today’s passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II marks the end of a tremendous era in history. Queen Elizabeth’s life was defined by the grace and devotion with which she carried out her duties to her people throughout her 70-year reign. She placed country above self, and made lifting up others her main concern. The United States and the United Kingdom have enjoyed a close and special relationship, and the queen had an incredible role in deepening and sustaining it. Her impact on the relationship will be felt for generations to come.
“I express my sincerest condolences to the royal family, as well as to the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, as they mourn the loss of a great figure and commence the celebration of her life and accomplishments. It is rare that history sees a figure quite like Queen Elizabeth.”
