WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement on Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s address to a joint session of Congress today:
“It was an honor to have President Herzog address a joint session of Congress today. Israel remains an example of a vibrant democracy in the Middle East. As the Israeli people celebrate their 75th anniversary this year, Congress reaffirms its steadfast commitment to Israel and its security.
“Unfortunately, the Biden Administration’s lack of a serious Iran policy has left Israel susceptible to continued attacks from Iran and its terror proxies. My colleagues and I in Congress continue to push for a more comprehensive Iran policy that goes beyond a nuclear negotiation. We’re prepared to lead legislation that will curb Iran’s malign behavior and provide Israel with the support it needs to defend itself.
“I also continue to push the administration to build off the success of the Abraham Accords by strengthening and expanding the circle of friends with Israel. These relationships are fundamentally transforming the region, and it is in the best interest of the United States to expand them and ensure their continued success.”
