WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement after meeting with U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik, nominee to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations (UN) for the incoming Trump Administration:
“Congresswoman Stefanik is a good choice for the role of U.S. ambassador to the UN. The UN system is in particularly bad shape and must change. This should include a rejection of decisions that benefit enemies of the free world like the Iranian and Russian regimes, an end to antisemitism that I fear is endemic across the UN, and ensuring Taiwan has the right to participate and contribute throughout the UN system. Anyone who takes this role must promote American leadership at and within the UN, which benefits the U.S. and further prevents waste, fraud, and abuse of U.S. taxpayer dollars. I look forward to working with my colleagues to consider Ms. Stefanik’s nomination.”
