Risch Commends Administration Action on Iranian Oil Exports

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Jim Risch (R-ID), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, made the following statement in support of today's announcement by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that the U.S. will no longer grant sanctions waivers to nations that import Iranian oil:

"I welcome the administration's announcement that the United States will no longer entertain exemptions for countries importing Iranian oil. The Iranian regime remains a leading state sponsor of terrorism and is actively seeking to destabilize the Middle East. Oil supplies make up a significant portion of the regime's revenue, and I support denying it the financial resources needed to pursue its malign agenda. Currently, market conditions are strong and we have confidence that other nations can and will fill any future gaps in the global oil supply."
