WASHINGTON- U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho) and Senator Shaheen (D-N.H.) today released the following statement regarding the government of Thailand’s forced return of Uyghur men back to China, where the Chinese government is actively committing genocide against Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities.
“The Thai government’s decision to send dozens of Uyghur men back to China is a stain on its international reputation. This action violates Thailand’s international human rights obligations. The United States and Thailand are allies with shared interests and challenges in the Indo-Pacific, but appeasing Beijing like this places our shared priorities at risk, especially when the United States presented viable alternatives.
“The United States will continue to support the Uyghur people and other Muslim minorities facing genocide by the People’s Republic of China.”
