WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement after welcoming His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan back to the United States:
“It was wonderful to welcome His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan back to Washington, D.C. today. The United States and Jordan share an ironclad relationship and a common vision for the Middle East. Jordan’s work to enhance regional security, promote moderate voices, and address the deep drivers of conflict are vital today more than ever, and the committee looks forward to continue partnering in these efforts.
“The United States is also thankful to our Jordanian friends for their generosity in continuing to host over 600,000 Syrian refugees following Assad’s brutal war and destruction in Syria. As challenges in the Middle East continue to rise, from efforts to hold the Assad regime accountable, an increase in tensions between Israel and Palestinians, to Iran’s malign regional influence, it’s comforting to have an ally like Jordan.”
