Corker Statement on Syrian Refugees and Paris Attacks
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - U.S. Senator Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, made the following statement today regarding the Syrian refugee crisis and the terrorist attacks yesterday in Paris, France.
"At this time, we continue to gather critical details and intelligence about the horrific attacks in Paris and stand ready to assist our friend and ally in the face of this evil," said Corker. "It is important that we remain vigilant and protect the American people here at home as well.
"While this violence reminds us of why millions of people are fleeing regions terrorized by Islamic extremists, there can be no shortcuts when it comes to guaranteeing the safety of the American people. Any proposed change in U.S. policy by this administration must involve a careful assessment of all the implications and ensure that there is no added security risk.
"The fight against ISIS is not just America's fight and France's fight; it is the world's fight. We must provide the beacon of leadership that has defined our great nation and work with our allies to develop a broader strategy to counter all the destabilizing forces in the Middle East."
