WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement regarding today’s launch of a U.S.-EU dialogue on China:
“Today’s launch of a U.S.-EU dialogue on China, led by Secretary Pompeo and European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy Borrell, is a very welcome development. Advancing transatlantic cooperation on the political, economic, and security challenges posed by the Chinese government is one of my top priorities as chairman. This dialogue is an important step towards doing just that.
“The United States and the European Union face no shortage of challenges: the protection of democratic institutions, collaboration on the development and use of future technologies, and addressing the security implications of China’s infrastructure investments, to name a few. Our two systems share democratic values, market-based economies, and a desire to protect the rules-based international system, and this dialogue provides an opportunity to collaborate on a more prosperous future.”
