WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today held a committee business meeting during which members approved 17 nominees and seven Foreign Service Officer (FSO) promotions lists.
“Given the enormous number of nominees under the committee's jurisdiction, considering and processing nominations is a core responsibility of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and I am glad we were able to approve 17 nominees and a number of FSO promotions today to be sent to the full Senate for a vote,” said Risch. “I am particularly pleased we were able to advance the nominations of Marshall Billingslea to be under secretary of state for arms control and C.J. Mahoney to be legal adviser of the Department of State. These roles are critically important as we grapple with how to face the proliferation challenges of an antagonistic Russia and a rising China, and as we aim to ensure the policies of the Department uphold the laws and values of the United States.”
