WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement upon the U.S. Senate vote to confirm Senator Marco Rubio as Secretary of State:
“Today, the U.S. Senate came together in a bipartisan way to confirm Senator Marco Rubio as Secretary of State. Having worked with Senator Rubio for many years on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I believe he has the skills and knowledge to lead the State Department at this pivotal moment. The list of challenges facing America is long and I look forward to working with Secretary Rubio to advance bipartisan issues, like supporting Ukraine, protecting American interests around the world and strengthening the NATO alliance.”
The U.S. Senate voted unanimously (99-0) to confirm Senator Rubio following the Foreign Relations Committee’s unanimous (22-0) vote to advance his nomination. Ranking Member Shaheen and Chair Risch issued a statement following the Committee’s unanimous vote.
