WASHINGTON –?U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the below statement following the assassination of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo:
“I join the people of Japan and the world in mourning the loss of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo. A giant in Japanese politics, he was a good friend and partner to the United States, and his strategic vision and his commitment to strengthening our alliance and to bolstering global security have made our world a safer, more cooperative, and more prosperous place. Prime Minister Abe was ‘present at the creation’ of the Free and Open Indo-Pacific and the Quad, laying the foundation for our engagement in the region today. I thank Prime Minister Abe for his life of service, and extend my deepest condolences to his family and to the people of Japan.”
