WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) issued the following statement following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s address to a joint meeting of Congress on Wednesday night:
“It was an honor to be part of the Welcoming Committee that hosted President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tonight for his address to a joint meeting of Congress. President Zelenskyy rightly struck a hopeful tone and provided the American people with a clear portrait of the many ways in which the assistance we’ve provided to Ukraine continues to make a tangible difference on the battlefield and in the lives of millions of Ukrainians under attack.
“As was made clear tonight, the fate of Ukraine remains on the line with the end of this brutal war still out of reach. In standing with Ukraine for as long as it takes, we are sending a global message that a belligerent thug like Putin cannot get away with forcefully taking another country’s territory and slaughtering innocent civilians in the process. Failure to do so would invite other dictators and tyrants to do the same.
“President Zelenskyy’s inspiring words succeeded in bolstering Congress’ bipartisan resolve against Putin. And as we prepare to vote tonight on the next tranche of assistance for Ukraine, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will continue working every single day to ensure there is robust commitment to support the people of Ukraine every step of the way towards victory.”
