Washington, DC – Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement regarding the death of Royal Jordanian Air Force pilot First Lieutenant Moaz al-Kasasbeh by ISIL:
"I strongly condemn the horrific killing of First Lieutenant Moaz al-Kasasbeh. The perpetrators of this heinous act must be brought to justice and ISIL’s reign of terror over the people of Syria and Iraq must end. I offer my sympathy and support to Lieutenant Kasasbeh’s family, and to the people and government of Jordan, which has been a steadfast partner in the fight against ISIL – a sentiment I personally conveyed to King Abdullah II of Jordan during our meeting today in Washington. ISIL represents a threat to the region, U.S. national security, and humanity that we are committed to addressing jointly. U.S. citizens have been murdered at the hands of ISIL and we stand united in the face of these senseless and despicable acts of barbarism."
