WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued a statement on the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis.
“Like so many in the world today, I mourn the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. For over a decade, Pope Francis led with unrivaled compassion, which was reflected in every part of his leadership and will undoubtedly define his legacy. He constantly reminded us that life is fragile. He understood that his role was to be an important voice on behalf of both the poor and overlooked populations of the world. And he never lost hope for reaching peace, even during a particularly turbulent time in the world. I personally am grateful for his efforts to support peace in Ukraine, Gaza and other conflicts globally. We must never lose hope for a world free of strife.
