“As the lead Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I recognize our ironclad alliance with South Korea and remain dedicated to advancing policies that deepen the Biden administration’s efforts to strengthen our bilateral cooperation,” said Ranking Member Shaheen.
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement on the enduring alliance between the United States and South Korea:
“The Republic of Korea is a trusted partner and vital U.S. ally in the Indo-Pacific. My team and I are closely monitoring the political situation in Seoul, and it is essential for the United States to stand with the South Korean people as they uphold their commitment to democracy, resilience and the rule of law during these critical times. As the lead Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I recognize our ironclad alliance with South Korea and remain dedicated to advancing policies that deepen the Biden administration’s efforts to strengthen our bilateral cooperation.”
Senator Shaheen has consistently championed the United States’ alliances and partnerships in the Indo-Pacific. During her visit to the region in April 2024, she reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to extended deterrence on the Korean Peninsula and underscored the importance of trilateral engagement with Japan. As Co-Chair of the Senate NATO Observer Group, Senator Shaheen has highlighted the growing connection between the challenges in the Indo-Pacific and transatlantic security.
