WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and U.S. Representatives Gregory W. Meeks (D-N.Y.) and Michael McCaul (R-Texas), Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, today released the following statement reaffirming support for renewal of cross-border humanitarian access to Syria during the upcoming United Nations Security Council (UNSC) vote:
“We vehemently condemn the Russian government’s efforts to hinder the delivery of badly needed aid to the Syrian people and to perpetuate the numerous atrocities being committed against the people of Syria by the Assad regime, Russia, and Iran. Cross-border aid delivery is critical in providing more than 14 million innocent civilians with lifesaving access to food and medical care, without which they will suffer greatly. We therefore strongly urge the UNSC to maintain cross-border humanitarian access to Syria by voting to renew Resolution 2585.”
