Menendez Reacts to Trump-Kim Summit in Hanoi

What we saw in Hanoi was amateur hour with nuclear weapons at stake and the limits of reality TV diplomacy.”

WASHINGTON – Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, this morning spoke to CNN’s Jim Sciutto to give his reaction after the Hanoi summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was ended abruptly.

“What we saw in Hanoi was amateur hour with nuclear weapons at stake and the limits of reality TV diplomacy,” said Senator Menendez, in reaction to President Trump walking away from the two-day summit after being unable to reach an agreement to dismantle Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons. “Without a full briefing, I am not going to give him the credit that this was the best choice. But I will give him credit in this respect, if you are not going to get a good deal then you do need to walk away. The problem is you shouldn’t set yourself up for that proposition as the President.”
