Menendez Leads Colleagues in Celebrating Committee Passage of Resolution Honoring United States’ Bond with Dominican Republic

WASHINGTON –  U.S. Senators Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today was joined by Senators Marco Rubio (R-Fla.)Ben Cardin (D-Md.), and Bill Cassidy (R-La.) in applauding Committee passage of their Senate resolution reaffirming the importance of the partnership between the governments of the United States and the Dominican Republic. The bipartisan resolution recognizes the enduring diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties that bind the two nations and calls for furthering relations to advance mutual prosperity and security interests.

“Today we are celebrating an enduring partnership between the U.S. and the Dominican Republic, a friendship rooted in shared values and interests,” said Chairman Menendez. “As we work to promote democracy, security, and prosperity in the Dominican Republic and throughout the entire Western Hemisphere, I look forward to continue working with the vibrant Dominican-American diaspora communities in New Jersey and across the United States who are equally committed to advancing the welfare of individuals across the region.”

“The Dominican Republic is an important U.S. partner in the Caribbean region, an emerging democracy that continues to benefit from international support, and a key country as we consider how best to help Haiti in its current crisis,” said Senator Cardin. “Today’s action in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee honors this relationship and the long-term ties between our nations.”
