Menendez, Durbin, Kaine Meet with Venezuela Interim President Juan Guaidó

WASHINGTON – Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), and Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere Chair Tim Kaine (D-Va. ) met virtually with Venezuelan Interim President Juan Guaidó to discuss the ongoing political stalemate in Venezuela and the humanitarian crisis that has forced more than five million refugees and migrants to flee their homes under discredited President Nicolás Maduro’s regime. During their conversation, the Senators received an update on the political negotiations between Guaidó and Maduro, and discussed the upcoming state and local elections being held this November.

“We remain impressed with interim President Guaidó’s heartfelt dedication to seeing a better future for the Venezuelan people.  Against incredible odds, he and so many others continue a patriotic struggle to rebuild this once proud Latin American neighbor.  We stand with him and the Venezuelan people in this effort,” said the Senators.
