Chair Cardin Urges Sudan Armed Forces to Join Peace Talks in Geneva

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement calling on the Sudan Armed Forces to join peace talks set to begin this week in Geneva, Switzerland:

“The fighting in Sudan has caused the worst humanitarian disaster in the world. I urge the Sudan Armed Forces to send a team to Switzerland immediately to join the peace talks scheduled to begin August 14th. The parties must chart a path to a sustainable peace and international partners must find a way to deliver humanitarian aid now. Famine has already been declared in at least one area of Sudan, and we have a moral obligation to help those in need.”
