Chair Cardin Statement on Twelfth Anniversary of Journalist Austin Tice’s Abduction in Syria

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement on the twelfth anniversary of journalist Austin Tice’s abduction in Syria:

“Today marks twelve years since Austin Tice was abducted in Syria by the Bashar al-Assad regime. Austin is a talented journalist, photographer, and U.S. Marine and combat veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He shed light on the lives and struggles of the Syrian people, bringing gripping stories of war, injustice, and unimaginable suffering to the world.

“As we remember Austin, my thoughts are with his mother and family who have endured the pain of his absence and who work tirelessly to secure his immediate release. I stand with them and commit to continue working with the Biden-Harris Administration and all those with the power to help pursue every possible avenue to reunite Austin with his loved ones.”
