Chair Cardin Statement on the 2nd Anniversary of Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine

WASHINGTON – Today. U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued a statement ahead of the two-year anniversary of Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

“As the world marks the second anniversary of Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, the United States — under President Biden’s leadership — has rallied a global coalition to support Ukraine with military aid, humanitarian assistance, and economic support,” said Chair Cardin. “With the backing of 50 nations, including NATO allies and the G7, efforts are underway to hold Putin’s Russia accountable for its aggression and ensure Ukraine’s sovereignty is upheld.

“In the wake of the tragic death of Alexei Navalny and escalating tensions, the United States is implementing new measures to counter Russia’s actions, including its illegal war on Ukraine and its ongoing internal crackdown on political dissent,” continued Chair Cardin. “The stakes couldn’t be higher as the U.S. House of Representatives faces a pivotal decision: bolster America’s commitment to defending Ukraine or risk soaring costs to maintain international order. Failure to support Ukraine will only embolden autocrats worldwide, posing a threat to democracies everywhere. Slava Ukraini!”
