Sen. Cardin served as co-author, negotiator of package that passed Senate 98-2
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement Tuesday on reports that the House of Representatives is delaying consideration and passage of bipartisan legislation to sanction Iran and Russia. The Senate passed the bill last week 98-2:
“The overwhelming bipartisan resolve in the Senate for strong sanctions against Russia should carry over to the House. I'm deeply alarmed that the Republican House leadership is considering a parliamentary maneuver which could delay or halt the bill from advancing to the floor for a vote. Russia must be held accountable for its destabilizing activities in the United States, Ukraine, Syria, and worldwide. This bill does that and it's time for House action, not political games to shield a White House unwilling or unable to comprehensively act on its own.”
