WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement recognizing May as Jewish American Heritage Month. In 2014, Senator Cardin was a lead cosponsor of a bipartisan Senate Resolution recognizing May as Jewish American Heritage Month and honoring Holocaust victims for their contributions to American society.
“The month of May is Jewish American Heritage Month, a time to honor the contributions of Jewish Americans in the United States,” said Senator Cardin. “As a proud Jewish American, the concept of giving back to our community and of performing acts of charity or tzedakah has always been a central part of my life. This month is a special occasion to acknowledge the innumerable contributions Jewish Americans have made to this nation.
“Over the course of 350 years, Jewish Americans have played a vital role in shaping American culture and since 1948, this community and so many other groups have nurtured the relationship and strengthened the enduring bonds between the United States and Israel. Throughout the month of May, let us acknowledge the vital contributions people of the Jewish faith have made to American society and let this serve as inspiration to future Jewish American leaders and innovators to carry on this legacy.”
