WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement in commemoration of the 16th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks:
“Sixteen years ago, nearly 3,000 innocent people lost their lives in terrorist attacks in New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania, including the first responders and volunteers who put their own lives at risk to help others. We will never forget their stories and their sacrifice. On America's worst day, they embodied the best of us, including the brave passengers who overtook Flight 93 and spared the loss of more innocent life in our nation's capital.
“America came together after this horrific attack on our nation, which only strengthened our commitment to the values we stand for and our resolve to create a more peaceful, secure world.”
