Chairman Kerry Marks The 100th Anniversary Of International Women’s Day

Washington, D.C. –To mark the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry (D-MA) released the following statement:

“Today, on International Women’s Day, we take time not only to honor the contributions of women around the world, but to pledge our support and steadfast commitment to helping women seek equality in all aspects of society.  It’s no secret that around the world, the unique talents of women are undervalued.  We must empower them to overcome the enormous economic, political, social, and educational challenges they face.  As we watch historic events unfold in the Middle East and North Africa, women are on the front lines, often at great personal risk and sacrifice.  While we build new partnerships with emerging governments in the region, the brave women and girls who have helped lead these populist uprisings must play a prominent role as these nations chart a new course.”
