Chairman Kerry On Tom Donilon Succeeding General Jones As National Security Adviser

WASHINGTON, D.C.--Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry (D-MA) released the following statement today praising President Obama’s selection of Tom Donilon as his new national security adviser and thanking General James Jones for his exemplary service in the post:

“Tom Donilon has provided critical advice to Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. No one is better prepared to take over the vital job of national security adviser at this critical moment in history than Tom. I have great confidence that he will continue to provide President Obama with wise advice and counsel and I look forward to continuing to work closely with Tom and his team at the National Security Council.

“Jim Jones has served President Obama with the honor and distinction that marked his 40 years as a Marine officer, commandant of the Marine Corps and Supreme Allied Commander for Europe. All of us who have worked with Jim value his counsel and friendship and wish him well.”
