Washington, DC – Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry (D-MA) released the following statement today in celebration of Nowruz:
“More than 300 million people around the world celebrate Nowruz today to mark the beginning of spring and the Persian New Year. To all those who observe Nowruz, including those in Afghanistan, Iran, and the United States, I would like to wish you Eid-eh Shoma Mobarak. Nowruz has been celebrated for over 3,000 years as a time of renewal and hope. It is also a season of promise. We are already seeing the extraordinary results as ordinary people throughout the Middle East and North Africa determine that they have a voice in how they are governed. I hope this year sees more people throughout the world enjoy fundamental freedoms and peace."
